Hello Friends:

This is Roxy, and here I am taking a dive into the world of blogging.  Never thought I’d be doing this – it takes up so much time that I could be using to do something more creative.  But then I figured I need to start talking to my peeps and giving you a chance to talk back to me.  So here we are.

I’m figuring that at least a couple of times a month I’ll put something out there, and you can all throw your ideas and opinions into the hat and let’s see where it goes.

Today I’m going to talk about Henna.

Henna Powder

Henna Powder

]Henna comes from a flowering plant (Lawsonia inermis) that has been used forever to dye skin, hair, cloth, etc. I’m sure many of you are familiar with the art of temporary tattooing of the skin based on those dyes.  They are an interesting novelty for those who like the idea of a tattoo but are not yet fully committed to having a permanent one done.

While in the West, Henna is more of a novelty, it has a deeper Religious significance in other parts of the world, and it has traditionally been used in various Hindu festivals and observances – particularly weddings.

Recently, it seems that Henna has become a buzzword for “natural”; but let me say this early on:  Henna is just ONE of several plants that produce dyes.  Another example is the Indigofera plant from which Indigo dye is extracted.  Indigo is a deep dark blue that looks almost black, and is also a popular source of hair coloring.  So there are lots of other plant extracts that you can use to color your hair…..

Used on the hair, Henna provides a natural, gentle and subtle way to transform your hair color.  Being derived from a plant, Henna does not have the mean and corrosive effects of hair dyes that are based on synthetic or chemical compounds.  The coloring action is slower, and the contrast is not as stark.  It’s a process that takes more time than the synthetics.

But the huge up-side is that it doesn’t tear up your hair, and you don’t have to sacrifice the health of your hair on behalf of color.

At Loclife, I encourage my clients to keep their natural hair color.  But sometimes we need a lift, and sometimes those gray roots just don’t do it for us.

So here’s the task…  If you’ve used Henna (either here at Loclife or otherwise), let’s talk about your experience – the good, the bad and the ugly of it.  Let’s keep it as real as we can and see where this goes.

Peace – and not all who wander are lost.

Wow Ms. Roxanne You are constantly enlightening my mind and soul…Thankyou…I do and would like to be your EXPERIMENT in the world of Henna. In high school I dabbled in it and I had a friend that I expierenced and saw the art of it on her hand prior to her marriage that was not only spiritual in its own right but absoultely faboulous to view on her hand and feet…….I would also like to comment on the LIBERATION of my mind and espically my hair that all praises belong to you.

My journey began with the idea of locking and all the research I was doing but not quite sold on the idea and the unpleasant beginners stage. To my rescue was a co-worker Sonya who had an expierence in your healing hands that made me inquire where she had gotten her locs done and she gave me your card……Please let me stop here and explain and give you insight to my dysfunction.

I have always been a weave wearing, micro-braids swinging, wig changing sista all my adult life. I had the misconception that my hair in a natural state was unbecoming and at worst unattractive. Yes I was truly dysfunctional by all text book meaning when it came to my hair. SOOOO for me to venture to LocStyle and reveal the true me to Ms. Roxanne was a giant leap out of my confort zone.

Now to the presesnt. During my consultation, the expeirence Roxanne gave me in addition to anaylze my mental and hair state, transformed me mentally almost instantly…. For that I thank her tremendously and God for steering me in her direction. Now once she started the transformation of my hair, which was two days later, I could barely stand to wait any longer…lol..lol…She explained and showed me the natural state of my hair was wonderful and naturally curly…Something I never Knew I had…It felt and looked wonderful……When she finished, I had been liberated in so many ways it would take several blogs to communicate the depth she had revealed and helped me shed. I will always use her products and recommend them to everyone I come into contact with. She is a spirtual healer of the mind body and soul with her hands and her products….I use the soap, the oils, the aroma oil to burn and of course hair products….Already compiling my list to send to NJ to family….Thanks a million Ms. Roxanne I love you and my hair….Life brings you into circles you belong!!! sometimes late but never denied!!!!
